Custom Fighters Charity Build
Press Release From
Custom Fighters:
The members and staff at Custom Fighters – an online community and web
forum for streetfighter motorcycle enthusiasts – would like to announce
that we have begun to undertake a grassroots project for charity. Our
community has decided to collaboratively build a custom streetfighter
motorcycle which will be auctioned-off and the proceeds will be donated
to both The National Motorcycle Safety Foundation and Saint Jude
Children’s Research Hospital.
Details:
The members and staff at Custom Fighters – an online community for
streetfighter motorcycle enthusiasts – is in the beginning phases of an
amazing grassroots collaborative project to benefit charity. The members
of the forum are taking part in a democratic and grassroots process
where a custom streetfighter motorcycle is going to be built from
scratch where all of the members will have a chance to assist and play a
part in the build. Members are involved in the decision-making process
right from the get-go on this build. Members make suggestions and post
ideas, and the rest of the forum members get to vote on the ideas if
needed to make the final decision. Our first decision was to choose
which charity or charities we would make the donation to. Members of the
forum offered over 25 different charitable organizations. The decision
was made via public polling and the results were tallied to give us our
recipients. The voting was close, so close we decided to split the final
proceeds down the middle with 50% going to Saint Jude Children’s
Research Hospital, and 50% going to The National Motorcycle Safety
Foundation.
Chris Miller and Adam Frantz, the founders of Custom Fighters had this
to say about the charity build:
“Members and sponsors of our site are working together to compile enough
parts, money, and services to build a completely one-off custom
streetfighter motorcycle. This isn’t your typical TV style “dump
$1,000,000 into a motorcycle and call it a custom” build. We are
carefully choosing and compiling parts as efficiently as possible in
order to create something with the lowest cost but highest value.
Everything will be very high quality and lots of it hand made by
professionals. Once the bike is completed, it will be shown at numerous
motorcycle events in North America, to raise awareness and interest in
the bike. Toward the end of the season the bike will be sold to the
highest bidder and the money will all be donated to two charities: St.
Judes Children's Research Hospital, and the National Motorcycle Safety
Foundation.”
Ken Glaser of the national Motorcycle Safety Fund had this to add:
“The National Motorcycle Safety Fund commends CustomFighters.com for
their Build For Charity event. Any proceeds donated to NMSF -- a
charitable non-profit organization created in 1980 to supplement the
work of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation -- will be used to build a
stronger, safer motorcycling community. NMSF programs include
distributing safe riding educational materials, developing motorist
awareness campaigns, and supplying helmets to rider training sites.”
Members of the forum are making contributions in three primary ways –
and often in a combination of those ways. Members can contribute to the
build by contributing money to aid in buying parts and components or
paying for professional services which the members can not do
themselves. Members can also contribute parts and components that they
have or can fabricate that will be compatible with the rest of the bike.
And finally, members can contribute their time; either in planning and
logistics, labour on the build, prototyping and design of the motorcycle
and components, and in transporting and promoting the streetfighter when
it is complete and before it is auctioned. Many of the members at Custom
Fighters have made combination donations of both money or parts and
their time.

Custom Fighters
Announcing the Custom Fighters bike build for charity Our goal is to
raise $5,000 for the build. This money will be used to construct the
custom motorcycle. Once the Streetfighter motorcycle is complete,
members of Custom Fighters will promote the bike and following auction
at several motorcycle shows and events. Our hopes are that by first
promoting the motorcycle we can raise more money for the donation during
the auction than the original value that was contributed by our members.
Many details related to the build are still being voted upon; though, we
can state that the build will be based upon a Suzuki GSXR frame and
engine. Since all of the members of Custom Fighters are making the
decisions via polls and contributions, certain decisions will take some
time to be completed. We encourage you to frequent the forum to monitor
the process and progress.
It is Custom Fighters’ plan to publicly unveil the charity build
streetfighter at the first annual Fighter-Fest, taking place at the
Carlisle Summer Bike Fest in Carlisle, Pennsylvania on July 25th thru
July 27th. Mark your calendars! Because the world of motorcycling is
about to have it’s socks knocked off!

Can you imagine...
a world without
children?
We Can’t.
I think that this is a very worthwhile cause for any of us to support.
As a Healthcare professional and a motorcyclist, it is for a charity
very close to my heart and I would like to ask you all to support this
in any way that you can. Well done guys, I can’t wait to see the
finished project. It’s a great Idea and just goes to prove how generous
bikers can be. |
